Professor Laznicka’s work and ongoing documentation never ceases to amaze me. I’ve just been in the Kiruna district and it’s a real delight to see the Data Metallogenica record reflecting what I saw underground and more. The open pit was of course snowed in but thanks to the 1986 records we can see it all in quality photos and descriptions. Fantastic and a fabulous resource – Jim Stewart, Golden Archer Resources, Perth I’m a librarian working for GeoRef. My current project is to identify Australian geoscience theses that need to be added to our database. I was in despair when I first started this huge project. As you well know, there are thousands of Australian geoscience theses, from many different universities. How to start? So I was delighted to discover Data Metallogenica. I commend you. This superb database, is exactly what I need for this work - Connie Manson, GeoRef Editor/Indexer, USA This is truly the most extraordinary resource I have yet come across. I must recommend it - Jack Caldwell, InfoMine, Vancouver This will be a fantastic reference; DM has potential as a tool to enhance the capabilities and experience base of our geologists - Brock Riedell, Chief Geologist, BHP Billiton, Vancouver I just took a detailed look at AMIRA's Data Metallogenica. It's impressive!! This is going to be an incredibly useful tool in the business. AMIRA has applied the latest technology to what can only be the most comprehensive ore deposit collection in the world. I wonder how much the annual subscription fee will be for institutions and educational facilities, but if it is inexpensive enough, they ought to be subscribing massively, just like subscribing to a journal such as Economic Geology - Antonio Arribas Jr, Exploration Manager South America, Placer Dome, Reno. The photos of individual samples are spectacular - Rael Lipson, Chief Geologist, Gold Fields, Denver I'm really impressed with the way Data Metallogenica is progressing. This is a really practical database which should greatly benefit explorationists and researchers globally - Doug Kirwin, Executive VP, Ivanhoe Mines, Bangkok your superb database - Lesley Chorlton, Geological Survey of Canada, World Mineral Deposit Map Project, Ottawa Today I had a chance to look at some of your material, and I remain blown away by it. When I describe it now to people, I say it is "like a Library of Congress" for mineral deposits - Clinton Smyth, Managing Director, GeoReference Online, Vancouver We believe that listening to what the rocks say is an important part of the discovery process. Data Metallogenica enables us to provide our geologists with the opportunity to listen to more rocks than we would ever hope to expose them to through field visits during their careers. Most importantly it enables our geologists to understand the broader setting of a deposit, something which is sometimes difficult to appreciate from a mine tour - Dan Wood, General Manager Exploration, Newcrest, Brisbane Newmont
staff who have had the chance to visit the DM Centre have been truly
impressed with the depth and range of mineral deposits covered globally
- John Hammond, Consulting Geologist,
Newmont, Perth While the collection might be regarded as primarily a training and educational aid, I believe it also has potential to aid in the discovery process - Ian Ledlie, Exploration Manager Australia, Rio Tinto, Perth DM is brilliant - Bill Williams, Exploration Manager Peru, Phelps Dodge, Lima The images are of high quality and the amount of useful information being assembled, catalogued and made available is really impressive. This is an ongoing project with some far reaching implications for the future of mineral deposit studies within the industry and academia - Jeff Toohey, President, Santiago Exploration & Mining Association, Santiago An enormous data base with virtually unlimited growth potential - Mike Thicke, Search Leader Porphyry Copper Andes, BHP Billiton, Santiago A great resource to improve our understanding of what we are exploring for. It is probably the next best thing to a field/mine visit, without the cost - Anonymous We love the product - Brian Richardson, Exploration Manager, Thundelarra Exploration, Perth You have done well to save the treasure - David Denham, Editor - "Preview", Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicists, Canberra I have visited DM several times - the collection is unique and truly fascinating. The placing of high quality photos of the collection on the internet is a vital step - Nigel Radford, Consulting Geochemist, Newmont, Perth ..such a superb research tool in DM - Michael Gunning, Northern Geological Survey, Saskatchewan Industry and Resources, Regina I must congratulate
AMIRA on a splendid venture
. Data Metallogenica will be THE
world centre for comparative ore deposits studies - Professor
Eugen Stumpfl, University of Leoben, Austria Looks very impressive - congratulations on the achieved level of comprehensive information and service - Reimar Seltmann, Head, CERCAMS (Centre for Russian and Central EurAsian Mineral Studies), Natural History Museum, London I am now using DM. I don’t expect to watch television ever again! - Dr Rob Chapman, School of Earth and Environment, University of Leeds
